Magnet and Thumbprint Sensor Mjölnir Hammer Trick

Maker and electrical engineer Allen Pan of the Sufficiently Advanced YouTube channel built this custom hammer modeled after Thor's Mjölnir which uses an electromagnet to create a strong magnetic field that secures the hammer on any metal surface. The catch is that only Pan's own fingerprint can deactivate the magnet. Here's how it works:

  • A capacitive touch sensor (fingerprint sensor) attached to the handle
  • An Arduino Pro Mini and a solid state relay, which serves as a switching device.
  • A microwave oven transformer electromagnet that uses electricity to produce a very strong magnetic field
